Through my artwork, I am interested in expressing the world that people subjectively perceive. While I focus on painting, I also create spatial works such as installations. The motifs of my work are things I see in my daily life. They are things that are on the fringes of my vision and vaguely perceived, rather than things that I gaze at consciously. Therefore, although I paint figurative motifs, I also incorporate abstract expressions. In my paintings, these motifs are depicted as metaphors for the others in the society and the society itself. Also, in installations, the objects are there in order to metaphorically express our visions and the relationship to the others. The flowers and grass on the side of the road or the view from a train window are things that are vaguely perceived because we do not have time to fully observe them in our contemporary urban life, or because they pass by in an instant that we cannot physically process them. We may not even pay attention to them if they did not have some characteristics in themselves. Within a limited amount of time, the amount of information that can be obtained about things that we treat as accessories or garnishes to our lives could be insufficient or one-dimensional, and they are not necessarily captured as accurately as if they were captured with a camera. However, although they are vague and fragmentary, they are real perceptions for me, and I consider it important to express them. I am interested in observing such unconsciously perceived worlds and expressing in my work the people, the society, and the relationships among the things that exist there, reflected in these worlds.
